Department of Veterans' Services Q&A

Learn about your and your family's veterans benefits and services at this Q&A table presented by The Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services. ADVS provides direct services to Veterans through the administration of 50+ professional benefit counselors located throughout the state - helping Veterans connect with their VA benefits, two skilled-nursing Veterans' Home facilities in Phoenix and Tucson provide short and long-term care (with new homes under construction in Flagstaff and Yuma), and three Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemeteries: in Sierra Vista, Camp Navajo near Flagstaff, and in Marana north of Tucson.

In addition, the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services provides critical, state-wide coordination and technical assistance to services and organizations serving Veterans. This includes activities such as coordinating services across private and public sectors in serving targeted populations such as Veterans experiencing homelessness, and special needs for the growing population of Women Veterans - many of whom are at-risk, as well as building community capacity to address Veteran employment and higher education.

Duane Roen's Percussion Workshop

Budding percussionists of all ages will learn how to make and play simple percussion instruments from wood and items found around the home. At the beginning of the workshop, Duane Roen will show some percussion instruments that they have built (rain sticks, cajons, kalimbas, guiros, thunder drums, and dozens more), and they will explain their building techniques, as well as cultural origins of some of the instruments. Everyone is welcomed to try out the instruments.

These appetizers, main courses and desserts were popular back when a gallon of milk only cost $0.82!

Join us as we journey through the ages to explore Dance in Art. Dance is performed as a form of emotional expression, social interaction, religious and ethnic ritual, or pure entertainment. We will begin in ancient Egypt and travel through different countries, cultures, and periods of art up to the present day. Included are works of art by famous artists like Degas, Renoir, Van Gogh, Chagall, and O’Keeffe, plus masterworks from Phoenix Art Museum’s permanent collection.

Murder and Mayhem Book Club
