Event Type: Adult Age Group(s): Adults Date: 4/26/2017 Start Time: 1:00 PM End Time: 3:00 PM Description: This presentation will address object hoarding in older adults while differentiating between squalor and crisis hoarding situations. An overview of the psychological, biological and genetic factors associated with hoarding disorder and how social stigma helps to increase the risk of older adult isolation. This presentation will also have a group activity which helps to identify different perceptions of hoarding households and the obstacles that can occur when trying to help the person with hoarding disorder. Effective communication techniques and quotes will help to illustrate ways to encourage and support de-cluttering activity among older adults with hoarding disorder. Lastly, resources will be provided to assist with additional knowledge, on-line support groups and answers to questions that may arise long after the presentation ends.
