Urban Gardening with Aquaponics

Event Type: NONE
Age Group(s): Adults, Teens
Date: 10/1/2016
Start Time: 11:00 AM
Description:
Explore the symbiotic relationship between aquaculture, the science of raising fin fish and shell fish in a controlled environment, and hydro-culture, the growing of plants in a soil-less medium, or an aquatic based environment. Will discuss the basics of system design, appropriate building materials, system maintenance and hydrology. Additionally, we will explore appropriate technologies that bring these systems in-line with the ecology and attempt to create near natural habitats for all species involved. Another key topic that will be discussed is how to ensure plant nutrients are available and distributed properly.
