Art Docent Talks: THE ART OF TEA

Event Type: Adult
Age Group(s): Adults
Date: 5/2/2024
Start Time: 1:00 PM
End Time: 2:00 PM
Description:
Docents from Phoenix Art Museum present a series of one-hour talks on a wide variety of art topics. Art is a transcendent force, and we'll experience its power by viewing and discussing various periods and works of art. This Month:
The Art of Tea follows the history of tea and its depiction in art. In China,
almost 5,000 years ago, a single leaf fell into a bowl of hot water. Camellia
sinensis, a popular tree, gave us the first tea leaf, and soon the world was
enjoying a cup of tea. For centuries, artists have used a wide variety of styles
and different media to tell us stories about tea and the customs, rituals, and
even historical events that surround it. Join the conversation and discuss works
of art that focus on The Art of Tea.
